The Best Third Jerseys Released For 2018/19

The 2018/19 season saw football clubs push their third kits to new creative heights. Manufacturers focused on weaving local history, city landmarks, and club identity into each design. Beyond aesthetics, some kits also embraced sustainability through recycled materials. Below, each jersey is explained through the story behind its look.

FC Barcelona

Barcelona’s vibrant third shirt features a diagonal sash that mirrors the angular route of Avinguda Diagonal through the city. The two-tone design shifts from a deeper red along the sash to a softer pink across the rest of the fabric. This bold look continues the club’s tradition of daring away kits while remaining rooted in Barca’s visual DNA.

Inter Milan

Inter’s third kit incorporates a distorted map of Milan’s city center set within a swirling marble-like graphic. A thick dark grey cross dominates the pattern, referencing the Cross of St. George, a historic emblem on Milan’s coat of arms. The traditional blue of Inter’s home shirt appears through the club crest and the Swoosh logo.

AS Roma

A fiery gold jersey forms the canvas for aerial map views depicting key moments in Roman history. Hidden within the design is the Lupetto, the she-wolf from Rome’s founding myth, a powerful symbol for the Giallorossi. The combination of map imagery and the iconic animal celebrates both the city’s ancient past and its forward-looking spirit.

Atlético Madrid

The Fountain of Neptune inspired the color palette of Atlético Madrid’s third kit. The two-tone blue shirt honours the link between the club, its supporters, and the Spanish capital in two ways: the blue evokes the water from the fountain where fans gather for victories, while orange detailing reflects sunlight bouncing off Neptune’s trident.

Chelsea

Chelsea’s third jersey pays homage to London through a textural print that, on close inspection, reveals an aerial view of Stamford Bridge and the surrounding area. The design ties the club to its home ground even when playing away. The kit is completed with teal blue shorts and crimson socks and will be worn during the European campaign.

Manchester United

Manchester United’s third kit is made from 100% recycled polyester interlock material that includes Parley Ocean Plastic. The dark blue shirt draws inspiration from the jersey worn by the 1968 European Cup winners, with gold accents. A blue-and-gold club badge and embroidered adidas logo feature, while blue stripes run down the sides. The collar carries the message “For The Oceans.”

FC Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich’s third kit also uses 100% recycled polyester interlock with Parley Ocean Plastic. The bluish-grey shade has only been seen once before, on the team that reached the 1999 Champions League final. White trim, including adidas stripes and branding, completes the modern design as the club hopes to repeat that historic run.

Tottenham Hotspur

Nike’s third jersey for Tottenham takes inspiration from modern and unexpected colour palettes found in urban settings and nature. The asymmetrical pattern of dark geometric lines, upon closer inspection, reveals an aerial depiction of the club’s location in the Borough of Haringey (N17). The green hue across the kit comes from the original logo of a brewery that once owned part of the land where the new stadium now stands. The shirt will be used in European competition.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s third kit marks the first mass-produced Parley Ocean Plastic shirt for the club. The bold coral colourway represents various shades of coral, paying tribute to the beauty of the oceans that need protection. The design is clean and champions-focused, staying true to the club’s winning identity.
