Wycombe Wanderers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, a self-confessed Liverpool fan, made a powerful statement against Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos by physically tearing apart a pair of his signature boots. The gesture was a direct response to Ramos’ challenges on Mohamed Salah and Loris Karius during the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final.
The Boots
The boots destroyed by Akinfenwa are the limited edition Nike Tiempo “Corazón y Sangre” (Heart and Blood) model. Released to honour Ramos’ values and his Spanish roots, the boots were produced in a very limited run of only 4,000 pairs worldwide, making them highly difficult to obtain.
The Message
“The Beast,” as Akinfenwa is widely known, effectively accused Ramos of deliberately injuring both Liverpool players during the final. By tearing the boots apart with his hands, Akinfenwa sent a clear visual message that resonated strongly with fans.
