A little over a year ago, adidas created the lightest football boots on the market, a model weighing under 99 grams. The growing trend of lightweight boots pushed adidas to undertake a multi-year project that culminated in the launch of the first-generation adidas F50 99g.
Design and Aesthetics
adidas has always paid close attention to boot weight, as seen with models like the Predator SL, CrazyLight, and the F50 99g. While there are few functional changes in this new model, several aesthetic updates are noticeable.
Furthermore, like the previous generation, the frame is translucent, revealing the internal structure and reinforcements on the toe cap and sides.
Outsole and Traction
No functional changes have been made to the outsole. The plate is extremely thin yet distributes pressure from the Speed Stud effectively, ensuring player comfort. Triangular-shaped studs improve traction during maximum-speed plays.
Visual Updates
In terms of aesthetics, this version appears more like a traditional football boot than its predecessor, which resembled track and field footwear. It features the adidas performance logo on the side, similar to the X line, and a chrome outsole like that on the Purechaos, Purecontrol, and Puremessi.
Limited Edition Release
As with last year’s release, the adidas 99g is a limited edition with very few units available worldwide.
