Is the adidas Predator EDGE+ Different to EDGE.1?

The adidas Predator EDGE+ carries the iconic Predator name, bringing a laceless collar and tiered rubberized ribs that make it a visual standout. While it is the version seen on professional pitches, the EDGE.1 offers a similar experience with one major change—laces. This guide compares both models and examines their key features, fit, and performance characteristics.

Predator EDGE+ vs EDGE.1: The Main Difference

There is one significant difference between the two releases: laces. Adidas removed the laces from the EDGE+ to create a top-tier laceless option, while the EDGE.1 retains a traditional lacing system. Internally, the fit and shape are identical. Across the upper, all components exist in the same fashion, and the same traction system is used. The choice comes down to personal preference—whether you want the option to tighten the boot or prefer the sensation of a laceless fit.

Predator Silo – Changing Dynamics

Over the past few years, adidas has taken different directions with the Predator. After retiring the silo around 2015, it was reintroduced in 2018 with a dampening-style structure across the forefoot that did not fully capture the Predator DNA. It was the Predator MUTATOR and FREAK, featuring the DEMONSKIN upper, that revived excitement. With the Predator EDGE, adidas mimicked the upper technology of the earlier Predator LZ while introducing a next-generation fit. Many feel this iteration does not meet the high expectations set by the brand.

ZONE SKIN Upper

The EDGE series uses strategically positioned rubberized ribs across the forefoot, engineered into four “control zones” on the instep and toe box. These zones are designed to optimize ball manipulation, providing extra grip and a noticeable pop when striking the ball. The performance is comparable to the Predator LZ, though the upper material on the EDGE feels stiffer than the more pliable LZ version.

PRIMEKNIT Mid-Cut Collar

The mid-cut collar is a premium two-piece PRIMEKNIT material built for breathable comfort, easy step-in, and secure lockdown. It is one of the easiest boots to slip on among high-collar options, hugging the ankle well with a soft and stretch fit. The off-center lacing system works effectively. While some players prefer a laceless feel, those who like laces can still wear the EDGE.1 or remove the laces from the EDGE+ if desired.

Traction and Soleplate

Underfoot, adidas introduced a new FACET FRAME soleplate designed for stability and dynamic traction. A weighted forefoot piece redistributes weight toward the front of the boot, aiming to optimize power transfer when striking the ball. This addition increases the overall weight—the Predator EDGE weighs over 9 oz, making it one of the heaviest boots currently on the market.

Final Note – Fit

Length-wise, the Predator EDGE fits true to size. In width, the forefoot cavity is decently wide, making it one of the better wide-fitting options available. However, the internal structure will not adjust or stretch over time, so the fit from the first wear is what you can expect throughout the life of the boot.
