The next generation of the adidas Predator is here. The Predator Freak is engineered to transform how athletes play, offering superior ball control and a redesigned fit. Building on last season’s innovations, this update extends the coverage of DEMONSKIN spikes and introduces a new collar design for greater freedom of movement.
DEMONSKIN Upper
The Predator Freak features 360° coverage of adidas DEMONSKIN technology. This performance innovation consists of a layer of rubber spikes, calibrated by a computer algorithm and positioned to align with key contact points on the ball. For the 2021 design, the product team extended spike coverage based on direct feedback from elite players. The new arrangement aims to enable superior control and increased ball swerve.
Manchester United’s Paul Pogba commented on the material:
“From first wear, I knew adidas had created something special with their DEMONSKIN material. As soon as I touched the ball, I really felt a difference in the way my foot connected. I’m happy my experience with it so far has impacted the new PREDATOR design.”
Split-Cut Collar
To help release the athlete’s natural skills, the Predator Freak introduces a transformed silhouette with a split-cut collar design. This allows the foot a greater range of movement and improves adaptability to feet of different shapes. The upper also includes a purecut laceless PRIMEKNIT collar and a two-piece sock construction. This design enables an effortless instep for easy entry into the boot, a locked-in fit around the midfoot and ankle, and an even surface area for continued ball control.
CONTROLFRAME Outsole
Performance updates continue with an evolved CONTROLFRAME outsole. This lightweight soleplate is complemented by traction studs for optimal grip and control. It stabilizes the wearer’s step, allowing full power of movement during play.
Design Updates
The Predator Freak receives an expressive aesthetic update referencing notable heritage designs, including the 1998 Predator Accelerator and the 2000 Predator Precision. The iconic three stripes wrap from the lateral to medial sides and around the underside of the boot. Luminous yellow DEMONSKIN spikes contrast against a bright all-over blue colorway, completing the striking look.
Release Details
The entire Predator Freak collection is now available, including the Freak+, Freak.1, and GL Pro goalkeeper gloves. The boots will be worn by players such as Paul Pogba, Toni Duggan, Marc-André ter Stegen, David Alaba, and Abby Dahlkemper.
