Adidas has released a complete set of nine away kits for national teams heading to the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Each design blends heritage-inspired details with modern performance innovations, drawing from past jerseys, national landmarks, and local culture. The collection covers Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Spain, and Sweden.

Design Philosophy

According to Juergen Rank, Senior Design Director at adidas, the World Cup serves as a platform for showcasing signature products and innovations. The new away kits aim to honour classic designs while integrating the latest advancements in fabric and construction. The result is a balance between authenticity and progression.

Germany

Germany’s away kit revisits the iconic green jersey from the 1990 World Cup semi‑final against England. The front graphic echoes the pattern found on the German home shirt, while the collar uses a two‑fabric component that incorporates the graphic and the “DIE MANNSCHAFT” wording on the back.

Russia

Host nation Russia draws inspiration from its street soccer culture. The white shirt features a grey graphic that presents an abstract vision of Russian architecture, paying tribute to the country’s industrial cities and architectural landmarks.

Argentina

Argentina will wear black for the first time in the Argentine Football Association’s history. The away jersey reinterprets previous adidas Argentina away designs and introduces a bold graphic inspired by the colours of the national flag.

Spain

Spain’s away shirt debuts a unique colour combination. A light blue base includes subtle blue shades in a graphic derived from late‑1980s adidas jersey patterns. Bright red accents appear on the sleeve cuffs, three stripes, and a two‑coloured crest.

Colombia

Colombia’s blue away jersey stands out with a graphic based on traditional scarf patterns worn for special occasions. Orange accents highlight the three stripes, adidas logo, and collar trim. The collar features the team slogan “Unidos Por Un Pais” (United as One Nation).

Japan

Japan’s away kit takes cues from the nation’s streetwear scene, aiming to transition seamlessly from stadium to street. It is a modern take on the 1991 home jersey, with a bold graphic and a collar sign‑off that marks key moments in Japanese football history.

Mexico

Mexico opts for a simple, sleek design. A red and green stripe across the chest draws from the national flag. The collar includes the slogan “Soy Mexico” (I Am Mexico) as a sign‑off.

Sweden

Sweden’s away jersey emphasises style through detailed fabric work. Light and dark shades of navy blue form a graphic pattern, while yellow trims appear on the collar and the adidas three stripes.

Belgium

Belgium’s away kit directly represents the country’s flag colours. The bright yellow shirt carries subtle horizontal lines, with red and black accents on the collar and adidas three stripes.
