Puma invited football boot enthusiasts to Madrid for the unveiling of a groundbreaking model that challenges conventional design. The innovation is not a new sock or material but a system that allows players to customise how they lace their boots – a major shift in boot fit. During the event, Atlético Madrid and France international Antoine Griezmann shared his insights on the new Puma Future and the technology behind it.
Introducing the Puma Future with NetFit
The centrepiece of the launch was NetFit, a lacing system that breaks the trend towards laceless boots. NetFit offers thousands of fitting options, allowing each player to find “his perfect fit” – a concept Griezmann described as essential: a boot must feel like your own.
Griezmann was on hand to explain the reasoning behind the most striking features of his boots. He demonstrated considerable technical knowledge and showed he had a clear idea of what he wanted.
“The most important thing is to have round studs,” he said. “When I accelerate – and I often do so on the balls of my feet – I used to slip a lot, so they’ve made an effort and listened to me.”
Griezmann’s Custom Fit and a Fond Nickname
During the experience, Griezmann spent time searching for his ideal fit using NetFit, and he clearly enjoyed the process. The brand’s willingness to incorporate player feedback – such as the request for round studs – was a key part of the design.
At the event, it was also revealed that among all his nicknames, Griezmann’s favourite is “Grizou, le petit diable”. The name dates back to his time at Real Sociedad and he remembers it fondly. “Le petit diable” left a strong impression both as a person and with his new Puma Future boots.
