Adidas has unveiled a unique Official Match Ball for the 2022 UEFA Champions League final. Unlike any previous match ball, this special edition carries a global message of peace and will not be sold through retail channels.
Design and Symbolism
The ball features pure white panels, deliberately devoid of color, symbolizing truce and unity. Inscribed in bold lettering are the words “мир | PEACE”—with “мир” in Cyrillic script meaning “peace” placed above the English equivalent. The design is a statement from UEFA, intended to carry a simple message of peace, belonging, and hope.
Auction for UNHCR
Instead of offering the ball for sale, adidas will auction the actual match ball used during the Champions League final. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to support people forced to flee their homes due to conflict and persecution.
Broader Mission
The ball is designed to transmit its message with every kick, passing from player to player on the pitch and extending beyond the Stade de France to the furthest corners of the world.
