Recapping The Complete CR7 Superfly “Chapter” Collection

In 2015, Nike began releasing a series of exclusive “CR7 Chapters” — seven numbered pairs of Mercurial Superfly boots that trace Cristiano Ronaldo’s life and career. With the final chapter now launched, the collection is complete. Over the course of the project, eight distinct boots (including a bonus pair) were created, each representing a key moment in Ronaldo’s journey from his childhood in Madeira to his status as a global icon. Below is a breakdown of every design and the story behind it.

Chapter 1: Savage Beauty

The opening chapter draws inspiration from Madeira, the volcanic Portuguese island where Ronaldo was born. The boot features a lava-inspired print — one of the most intricate graphic treatments Nike has ever applied to a football boot. The six-color, vivid pattern flows from toe to heel, designed to emphasize Ronaldo’s speed. The design was a collaboration between Nike’s World Headquarters and its expert craftsmen in Montebelluna, Italy.

Chapter 2: Natural Diamonds

This chapter focuses on Ronaldo’s move away from home at age 12 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer. He has called that decision the most difficult part of his career. For the first time, Nike textured the heel of a Mercurial boot — a rough, rocky finish representing those early, challenging years away from home. As the boot transitions toward the forefoot, the surface becomes smoother, mirroring the refinement of Ronaldo’s game over time.

Chapter 3: Discovery

Chapter 3 marks the moment Ronaldo was discovered. The color palette draws from his original club, while neon accents symbolize the talent that set him apart on the biggest stage. The design chronicles his arrival at Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon and his mentorship under Sir Alex Ferguson. The lateral side features silver dot graphics and a subtle reflective wave pattern, a nod to the Mercurial Vapor I boots he wore in 2003.

Chapter 4: Forged for Greatness

This installment celebrates the transformation years of Ronaldo’s career. On August 12, 2003, an 18-year-old Ronaldo arrived in Manchester expecting to wear the number 28 shirt, but Ferguson insisted he take the number 7. The boot’s design reflects hot iron being forged into shape — molten orange and red gradients on the plate transition into metallic, color-shifting tones across the upper.

Chapter 5: Cut to Brilliance

Chapter 5 covers Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a then-world-record transfer fee of £80 million (€94 million). At least 80,000 fans welcomed him at his presentation. The upper incorporates multicolor knit details that mimic the way light refracts through diamonds. The medial side features a textured CR7 logo representing a diamond graphic, while the heel counter displays a top-down view of a brilliant-cut diamond alongside the date of his Madrid debut.

Chapter 6: Born Leader

Chapter 6 focuses on Ronaldo’s role as captain of the Portugal national team. The color palette complements Portugal’s traditional colors. Key detailing includes: a nod to Portugal’s historical sea exploration within the Swoosh; the captain’s “C” integrated into a raised applique of an armillary sphere (also featured on the boot bag); a black collar that blends into hyper jade toward the sole — making these the first Mercurial 360 boots with more than one knit color; a cross on the heel tab linking to the Portugal National Team collection; and a cross pattern on the outsole aligned with Portugal’s away jersey.

Chapter 6: Edição Especial

A rare alternate colorway of the Chapter 6 boots, Edição Especial honors Ronaldo’s extraordinary legacy as the all-time leading European goal scorer in international football (154 goals in 154 games). Only 154 pairs were made available worldwide. The boot retains all the signature detailing of Born Leader but uses a more exclusive color palette.

Chapter 7: Built on Dreams

The final chapter brings the storytelling full circle. A forefoot graphic pays homage to Ronaldo’s number 7, while the design also nods to the memorable carbon-fiber boots of the past. The name “Built on Dreams” reflects the idea that future players will be shaped by dedication and hard work, just as Ronaldo’s complete story was. The boot celebrates the effort required to succeed at the highest level.
