Puma recently invited the media to London for an exclusive preview of the four national team shirts it sponsors for the Women’s Euro Cup. The event also showcased the Puma boots that will be worn during the tournament, and gave the chance to speak with Juventus Women and Italy striker Cristiana Girelli about the new designs, her expectations for the competition, and her personal jersey collection.
Italy’s Floral Jersey with Liberty
“It’s really beautiful, special, vintage and original. It will be an honour to wear it at the Euro. Seeing the crest and design on the Puma jersey makes us even prouder to wear it. It’s incredible that a brand like Puma has created a design like this, managing to represent an entire nation,” Girelli said.
The jersey was developed in collaboration with Liberty and features a floral pattern that complements the blue colour of the national team kit. A round neckline with the tricolour adds a retro touch and gives the shirt its identity.
Puma Ultra and Future Boots from the Liberty Pack
“White represents purity, and accompanied by flowers, the boot is very original and special, as well as being very comfortable,” Girelli explained when describing the new Puma Ultra from the Liberty Pack.
The collection also includes a new colourway of the Puma Future. Both boots feature an elegant white base with a floral graphic design. They are not yet on sale.
Girelli on Euro 2022 Expectations
After discussing the kit and boots, attention turned to the upcoming tournament. “We want to have fun without taking anything for granted. Taking to the pitch representing an entire nation is a huge responsibility; it’s always exciting and magical, it’s hard to explain,” Girelli said. She added that the men’s victory at Euro 2020 motivates the team, and they hope to convey those same emotions by playing in such a big competition.
Girelli’s Jersey Collection
Italy’s all-time top scorer offered insights into her personal collection of match-worn shirts. “I like to swap jerseys with the players I play against, and I actually have quite a large collection. However, I keep the ones I have a special connection with, such as the one from my debut with the national team, special matches or decisive goals. I have both my own and other girls’ jerseys. I hope that the new Puma jersey for the national team will soon become my favourite!”
