The adidas Predator 20+ marks a clear shift back to the original stylistics and mental approach of the Predator line. At the heart of this change is DEMONSKIN, a breakthrough technology that introduces a textured spike layer on the upper. What Is DEMONSKIN?
DEMONSKIN is a new interface between boot and ball, created using a computer algorithm informed by years of data-based research and testing. The upper features a textured spike layer with deliberately crafted spikes that wrap the front and side of the boot. The spike formation aligns to key contact points with the ball, aiming to enhance control, touch, and promote spin when striking.
How Does DEMONSKIN Feel on the Ball?
DEMONSKIN itself is decently rigid, which is necessary to keep all the spikes locked down on the surface. The spikes have a snug fit with little stretch through wear. Each spike features an attacking shaped design, pointing away from the boot and hooking toward the toes. This design is intended to create a “Predator” like connection with the ball, emphasizing the performance characteristics of a pure power boot.
On the ball, the impact is noticeable. However, when striking the ball, DEMONSKIN provides a little extra spring and cushion, which plays positively to overall performance. From a personal perspective, it is not the ideal material for maintaining ball control at speed.
Who Is the Predator 20+ For?
The Predator 20+ is best suited as an attacking style boot for play makers and goalscorers who rely on shooting as part of their game plan. It is not necessarily for the maestro who needs consistent small touches in tight spaces, but rather for the impactful attacking midfielder who sprays quick balls and looks to shoot on sight. As a winger or player who likes to move quickly with the ball at their feet, the boot did not prove as useful.
