Nike has launched a new frontier in performance footwear with Nike Mind, its first neuroscience-driven line designed to enhance athlete mindset. Erling Haaland leads the campaign as the brand introduces the Mind 001 mule and Mind 002 sneaker—sensory tools built to sharpen awareness, aid focus, and ground athletes before and after competition.
What Is Nike Mind?
Nike Mind is a sensory-footwear concept that shifts the focus from speed to presence. The shoes use underfoot technology that interacts directly with the brain, helping athletes clear mental noise and achieve balance. The technology is the result of ten years of engineering, featuring 22 independent foam nodes under each sole that move like pistons to mimic real ground feel.
“Every step literally hits different, firming your senses whilst simultaneously grounding you,” notes Nike. “They’re built to help clear the noise and balance each athlete.”


Mind 001 and Mind 002
The line includes two silhouettes: the chill slide-on vibe of the Mind 001 and the grounded precision of the Mind 002. Both are described as more than shoes—they are raw, responsive, and alive, designed to reawaken the foot, the body, and the mind.
Erling Haaland’s Role
Manchester City star Erling Haaland has been testing the technology for years alongside other athletes. He says, “Focus is everything in football, every step I take, I think of the shoe and what I feel in my feet — which is a good thing. It helps me to bring balance to my game.”
Haaland’s involvement underscores the campaign’s message: gaining focus and presence like one of football’s most dominant forces.

The Science of Sensory Footwear
Eric Avar, Nike’s creative visionary behind the project, explains: “Nike Mind is a new sensory-footwear concept that helps reawaken the foot, the body and the mind. It represents a new paradigm of performance and how we can potentially make athletes better in the future.”
Dr. Matthew Nurse, VP and Chief Science Officer at Nike, adds: “For 45 years, Nike has studied the body in motion — how muscles fire, how joints move, how oxygen fuels performance. Now, we’re expanding into the mind. By studying perception, attention and sensory feedback, we’re tapping into the brain-body connection in new ways. It’s not just about running faster — it’s about feeling more present, focused and resilient. That’s the next frontier of performance.”
