Slow Projects, the design studio known for reworking fashion’s future, has launched It’s Whatever You Want It To Be – a campaign that shines a light on the women shaping football both on and off the pitch. Fronted by Manchester United and England midfielder Grace Clinton, the capsule features upcycled garments co-designed by Clinton alongside amateur footballers Talia D and Verena Camesasca, created with Slow Projects founder Ed Sonnex.
The Campaign: It’s Whatever You Want It To Be
More than a collection, the campaign positions football as a cultural force that extends far beyond 90 minutes. Each piece is cut from reworked kits, vintage textiles, and pre-loved materials, stitched with narratives of pride, community, and self-expression. The aim is to celebrate how the game influences creativity, confidence, and the clothes people wear.
Grace Clinton’s Personal Connection
For Clinton, the collaboration was a chance to channel her energy, imagination, and personal roots through fashion. Shot at her family home in Liverpool – in the garden where her earliest football memories were formed – the campaign takes an intimate, raw tone. Every detail holds significance, from the reverse lining to subtle frequency wave patterns that nod to her spiritual beliefs.
“Creating this piece with Slow Projects was a really special experience,” says Clinton. “I wanted it to reflect my creativity & flare on the pitch, aligning with comfort. Wearability was a big factor for me. I feel like the piece is slightly out of my comfort zone in my day-to-day apparel, but once I wore it, I felt confident & at ease.”

“Football has shaped so much of who I am, and this was a chance to show that in a different way, through fashion and creativity,” she adds.
Upcycled Design and Sustainability at the Core
The collection is grounded in sustainability, with refurbished tech from Back Market providing the phones, laptops, and cameras used across design, documentation, and campaign photography. Luke Forshaw, Head of Brand at Back Market, explains: “Some of the most original ideas are built from what already exists… It’s exactly the kind of innovation we’re proud to champion.”

For Sonnex, the campaign goes beyond aesthetics. “The growth of the women’s game shows there’s space in society for more balance, care, and creativity,” he says. “I can’t pretend to know what it’s like to pioneer in such a male-dominated sport, but I’ve always admired the women who do – it’s a big inspiration for how I want to challenge the fashion industry.”

A Manifesto for Football as Culture
It’s Whatever You Want It To Be reads as both a collection and a manifesto, asking viewers to see football as more than competition. Through the perspectives of three very different women, the campaign celebrates the game as a canvas for creativity, empowerment, and individuality.

All design, content, and photography for the campaign were produced using second-hand devices from Back Market, reinforcing the idea that sustainability and sport can go hand in hand.
