Internet Day 2020 – How Fútbol Emotion Connects Football Fans Online

The internet has become an essential part of daily life, enabling people to shop, work, access information, and stay in touch with loved ones across any distance. For football fans and the businesses that serve them, the web offers a direct link to the sport they love, even when stadiums are empty and matches are paused. Internet Day highlights this digital connection, and Fútbol Emotion used the occasion in 2020 to reflect on its own reliance on the online world.

The Origins of Internet Day
Internet Day was first celebrated in Spain in October 2005, an initiative of the Association of Internet Users (aui.es). During the first edition, 534 events were organised across the country and more than 200 public and private organisations signed the Declaration of Principles for Building the Information Society. The United Nations later designated 17 May – originally dedicated to telecommunications – as World Information Society Day. In March 2006, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/60/252, officially proclaiming 17 May as World Information Society Day each year, promoting the importance of information and communication technologies and the issues raised at the World Summit on the Information Society.

Internet Week at Fútbol Emotion
Fútbol Emotion acknowledges that its business depends entirely on the internet. The company is grateful for a network that is often taken for granted, especially during difficult times when it provides a vital lifeline. Like many organisations, Fútbol Emotion chose not to hold any in-person events during the 2020 celebrations and moved its activities online instead. Social media channels featured live streams with football stars, while the YouTube channel continued to offer reliable video content. Product launches also went ahead during lockdown, including two notable releases.
Nike Wavelength Pack
Nike remains fully committed to football in every sense, supporting young talents who inspire the next generation. The brand’s philosophy – that stars are not born but made through hard work – is reflected in the boots worn by players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Megan Rapinoe. For the Wavelength Pack, subtle colours shift towards an electric blue that gradually takes centre stage. The term “wavelength” refers to the distance between two peaks or two troughs, a concept that mirrors the highs and lows of a footballer’s career: moments of winning and losing, but always moving forward.

The players set to wear these boots include Mason Mount in his Nike Phantom VSN football boots, helping Tammy Abraham find the net in his Nike Mercurial football boots – both wearing the Chelsea jersey. On the women’s side, midfielder Caroline Graham will use the Phantom VSN to assist Mariona Caldentey, who wears the Mercurial, both proudly representing FC Barcelona.
Reusch Pure Contact Arrow G3
The essence of the Reusch Pure Contact Arrow G3 remains unchanged from the earlier Reusch Freccia G3, recalling the history of the arrow symbol that has accompanied many goalkeepers throughout their careers. The German brand Reusch had been steadily incorporating new technology into its gloves, but the arrow design became an obstacle to improving the back of the glove with the latest advancements. Reusch therefore made a drastic decision: the arrow disappeared from all Reusch gloves after the 2002 World Cup. However, just a year before the 2020 Internet Day, Inter Milan goalkeeper Handanovic was seen wearing an all-white model with the arrow dominating the back. That same design later went on sale in two different colourways, allowing goalkeepers to enjoy the classic look once again.

Football Never Stops
When the state of emergency began, it seemed as though Fútbol Emotion might grind to a halt, but that was not the case. The team remained fully operational, working with top professionals to handle all incoming orders. The company continued with discounts of up to 70% during that period. Even while matches were not being played, football carried on – thanks to the internet.
