Lionel Messi's adidas Nemeziz 19.1 Graffiti Boots: A Tribute to Barcelona and Rosario

Lionel Messi’s bond with Barcelona is legendary. Arriving as a 13‑year‑old to chase his dream of becoming a professional footballer, he went on to be regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Now at 33, the Barcelona and Argentina number 10 is ready to fight for a fifth Champions League title in his distinctive adidas Nemeziz 19.1 boots. The latest model is inspired by urban graffiti art, featuring bold colours and the word “Barcelona” across the instep.

The boots combine Messi’s club and national identity in a single design. The Argentine flag appears alongside the legendary number 10 and his name in green lettering. Originally scheduled for release in June 2020 for the Copa América, the launch was delayed due to the tournament’s postponement. Messi is expected to debut the boots in the second leg of the 2019‑20 UEFA Champions League tie against Napoli and potentially in the final.

Design and Inspiration

The two boots tell different stories. The right boot pays homage to Messi’s hometown of Rosario, while the left boot honours Barcelona. The graphics are not repeated – each side is unique. This is not the first time adidas has released a boot inspired by Rosario; a previous model debuted in 2015.

Technical Features

The adidas Nemeziz 19.1 continues the use of AgilityBandage technology, now woven into the forefoot to rise evenly up both sides. A new synthetic finish provides extra grip – an area that was weaker in the previous generation. Inside, an elastic membrane hugs the instep (similar to the ACE 16+), securing the foot without the need for laces. The sole plate is a modular design, returning for the first time in nearly a decade, reducing weight and improving responsiveness. Eleven conical studs in a traditional layout deliver traction during explosive movements.
