A Mizuno boot with a k-leather vamp is always a promising combination. The Japanese brand consistently delivers on performance across its releases. The Morelia Neo KL II stands out for its accessible price point, making it one of the most budget-friendly k-leather options on the market. But does it meet the high expectations that come with the Mizuno name?
First Impressions
After a year of limited availability, we finally secured a pair to evaluate. This article covers initial reactions based on limited wear during fitness drills and ball work. A full review will follow later.
Leather Quality and Build
These are not a “Made in Japan” (MIJ) release. MIJ boots represent the elite tier of the boot world, using premium k-leather that offers optimal touch. The leather on the KL II is not as supple as higher-priced Mizuno releases, and the quality difference is noticeable when compared side by side. However, in isolation, the leather feels comparable to boots priced around the $200 range.
Fit and Comfort
On foot, the Morelia Neo KL II delivers a balanced combination of comfort and performance. Note that the review sample was a size larger than usual, so concrete fit feedback is limited. For reference, the Morelia Neo MIJ version offers a true-to-size, natural fit with pre-conditioned stretch and shape. The KL II lacks that pre-conditioning, which likely explains why the upper feels slightly stiffer out of the box. Softness develops with wear over time.
Soleplate Performance
The soleplate features low-profile, conical studs – a highly favorable design. This configuration makes the boot suitable for both firm ground (FG) and artificial grass (AG) surfaces, offering a smooth transition between the two.
Summary
The Mizuno Morelia Neo KL II is an affordable boot that provides a high-quality feel on foot. While it does not match the premium leather of elite MIJ models, it delivers solid performance and comfort for its price segment.
