New Balance Furon V5
The Furon V5 is New Balance’s fastest football boot. While not a radical overhaul from the previous generation, the changes are significant enough to be considered a generational upgrade. The upper retains a combination of Phantomfit technology — an inner mesh that delivers a precise fit — and Hidraskin technology, which locks the foot in place and features a textured relief pattern across the upper. The construction and assembly of these materials have been redesigned. Additionally, the upper offers more grip than past models while preserving the clean, direct touch characteristic of the Furon line.
The lacing system has also been revised. The tongue is smaller to suit players who prefer a tighter fit and a barefoot feel. The laces are now raised, similar to the Tekela boot, creating a cleaner, interference-free striking zone. The eyelet reinforcement has been removed and integrated into the soleplate instead, reinforcing the speed-focused design of the Furon — a trait mirrored by its flagship ambassador, Sadio Mané.
New Balance Tekela V1
The Tekela line returns without structural changes, but the emerald green colourway complements the boot’s design. Grooves across the upper aid ball striking, and the boot features Kinetich Stitch technology, which gained a following when it debuted in 2018.
The lightweight soleplate with conical studs remains, providing excellent comfort in combination with the upper.
New Balance’s 2019 offering consists of two striking boots: a generational update to its speed line and a refreshed look for its control line.
