The New England Revolution have unveiled “The ’96,” a retro-inspired third kit created as part of the adidas x MLS Archive Collection. The design pays homage to the club’s inaugural 1996 season while injecting modern energy into a classic look. One of ten MLS teams selected for this throwback release, the Revs fully embrace their ’90s roots with a bold, history-rich aesthetic.
A Throwback to the 1996 Inaugural Season
The Archive Collection celebrates the vibrant visual style of late-1990s and early-2000s MLS, featuring bold gradients, oversized wordmarks, and front-facing numbers that recall the era’s broadcast presence. For New England, this means reviving the club’s original identity from its debut campaign and refreshing it for 2025. The result is loud, proud, and unapologetically retro – exactly the approach expected from a third kit.

Design Details: Bright Red Gradient and Vintage Wordmark
Drenched in Bright Red with a distinctive gradient effect that mirrors the original strip, “The ’96” features the club’s original Revolution wordmark across the chest. Night Sky Blue shorts and accents complement the jersey, while matching Bright Red socks complete the full kit. On the back, the original MLS logo reinforces the throwback theme, alongside “Gillette” – the club’s new front-of-shirt sponsor beginning its own legacy in 2025.

True to the Archive Collection concept, each jersey is accompanied by a bespoke matching jacket and a fresh pair of adidas Gazelle shoes. This lifestyle-oriented set blurs the line between pitch-ready and streetwear staple, offering a complete look for fans.
“Inspired by our club’s legacy as a founding MLS club, and the now-iconic retro design of our original kits, we are excited to debut this new Archive Collection kit paying homage to our history with a refreshed approach,” said Cathal Conlon, Revolution Vice President of Marketing & Public Relations. “The ’96 kit revitalizes our bold look from the inaugural season and brings back a staple of our early uniforms, the classic Revolution wordmark.”
On-Pitch Debut and Alumni Night
The Revolution will wear “The ’96” for the first time on Saturday, July 19, when they host Orlando City SC at Gillette Stadium. Fans can expect throwback vibes, modern swagger, and a heavy dose of MLS nostalgia.
The retro revival continues later this season, including a standout appearance on August 9 during the club’s first-ever Alumni Night against D.C. United. With more than 20 former players set to reunite at Gillette Stadium, the timing perfectly honors three decades of Revolution soccer.
