Nike Mercurial Dragonfly: Next Generation Speed Boot Set for Release

Nike is preparing to launch a completely redesigned Mercurial Superfly, now called the Dragonfly. The new boot takes design cues from the natural structure of a dragonfly’s wing, aiming for maximum efficiency with reduced weight. It is built around seven essential components, each left visible to create a stripped-down look that emphasizes pure speed.

Release Timeline

The Nike Mercurial Vapor and Superfly Dragonfly will first become available on January 25, followed by a full global release on February 1.

Design Inspiration: Dragonfly Wing Geometry

The visual concept draws directly from the intricate geometry found in a dragonfly’s wing. This organic pattern guided Nike toward a construction that eliminates unnecessary bulk while keeping performance focused on speed. The result is a lightweight boot that exposes its core parts for an arresting, almost skeletal appearance.

Upper Technology: Vaporposite Material

Moving away from the Flyknit used in the 2019 Mercurial 360, the new silo introduces a Vaporposite upper. This material combines a grippy grid mesh with a premium lining to support ball control at high speeds, delivering a natural feel that players expect from a Mercurial boot.

Outsole: Aerotrak Plate for Traction

Beneath the foot, the Nike Aerotrak plate provides responsive support for rapid cuts and explosive acceleration. It is designed to help athletes change direction and break quickly in all situations.

Launch Colorway: Digital Psychedelic Palette

The first colorway is intentionally bold and vibrant, using a digital psychedelic palette inspired by a computer motherboard. This look pays homage to the most iconic Mercurial designs over the past 23 years, ensuring the Dragonfly stands out immediately on the pitch.
