Next Generation Nike Mercurial360 2019 Released

Nike has released the 2019 Mercurial 360 just in time for the Women’s World Cup, Copa America, and Gold Cup finals. The new boot builds on its predecessor’s speed-focused design with key updates while maintaining the lightweight feel that defines the Mercurial line.

Development and Player Feedback

The 2019 Mercurial broke Nike’s previous two‑year innovation cycle, accelerating improvements based on athlete input. Of the hundreds of professional players wearing Mercurials, only five worldwide had requested modifications. When asked to rate the boot on a scale of 1 to 10, players overwhelmingly scored it a 10, with the lowest rating being an 8. Nike’s design team treats the voice of the athlete as its starting point, and improving that solitary 8 became the real challenge.

Upper Design and Performance

The knit upper of the 2019 Mercurial features a more open structure than the 2018 version, reducing stiffness and making the material softer and more comfortable. High‑tenacity yarns—an elevated version of Nike Flywire—are integrated for lockdown from heel to forefoot, preventing the boot from stretching. This construction marks the first time Flywire and Flyknit have been melded into one, creating Nike Football’s strongest Flyknit offering to date. All Conditions Control (ACC) is applied to prevent the upper from being porous.

Soleplate and Traction

Inspired by speed cycling shoes that clip into pedals, the new Nike Aerotrak plate delivers the power transfer area. Combined with the revamped internal chassis, the Aerotrak plate provides more snap than its predecessor. The plate is intentionally minimalist, retaining only essential components to reduce weight. The 2019 Mercurial 360 comes in under 200 grams.

Added Graphics and Design Details

The drop Swoosh on the lateral side dips down to the stud and continues underfoot—a feature made possible only with a Flyknit 360 upper construction. Nike’s “Just Do It” slogan and the boot’s nickname “Merc” appear on the heel counter, while “Nike Football” is printed in multiple languages across the plate. The lateral Swoosh is hollow and open‑ended at the tail, reinforcing the lightweight speed theme. The debut Blue Fury colorway is sharp, and intricate detailing encourages close inspection. Notably, the boots are made in Italy—a departure from Nike’s usual leather‑only premium construction—making a statement appreciated by boot enthusiasts looking for something different.
