Nike has introduced the first boot in its Mercurial Dream Speed series, a collection designed specifically for the fastest football players on earth. The series will feature unique designs that interpret speed, unveiled one at a time over the next several seasons.
Design and Inspiration
The first Nike Mercurial Dream Speed edition follows the theme of the DNA of speed. Its design outlines technical details found in a Mercurial Superfly schematic, including perforation patterns, registration marks, crop lines, color codes, a scale ruler, and other graphic elements that show how the boot is built. The bold blue colorway takes cues from blueprints.
The boot features a metallic finish, subtle sparkling laces, and a magnified faded Swoosh on the Superfly’s upper, embodying movement even when standing still. Codes 10A and 73P represent the colors white and barely volt, respectively, used across Nike’s logo. On the lateral side of the heel, a 001 logo shines with an iridescent finish, signaling the first iteration of the series. The number 44.7 km/h next to the strike zone represents a dream speed for any footballer.
Technology and Performance
New high-tenacity Flyknit yarn is used across the offer, making the Mercurial softer and more form-fitting. Underfoot, Nike employs an improved, more responsive soleplate for a higher energy return with each step. The upper is finished with All Conditions Control (ACC) technology, making the boots suitable for fall to winter weather changes.
Player Debuts
The boots debuted on pitch exclusively worn by Sam Kerr, Kylian Mbappé, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
