The new Nike Mercurial MDS007 continues the Mercurial Dream Speed collection, a line inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo. Each chapter in the series tells a different part of the Portuguese star’s career, and this latest release draws on the countries he has conquered.
Design Inspiration: A Floral Tribute to Four Nations
The upper of the MDS007 takes its palette from four flowers: lavender, rose, carnation, and iris. These represent Portugal, England, Spain, and Italy respectively—each nation where Ronaldo has left his mark. The colours blend across the boot to create a distinctive floral motif.
Same Technology, Bolder Swoosh
Technically, the MDS007 is identical to the standard Air Zoom Mercurial boots found in other Nike packs. No changes have been made to the soleplate, upper construction, or cushioning. The difference lies entirely in the visual execution.
The most noticeable design shift is the swoosh. It has returned to a very prominent position on the side of the boot, stretching across the outer area and along the front of the upper. Inside the boot, the word “AIR” has been removed and replaced with another large swoosh that covers more than half of the interior surface. This approach echoes earlier Mercurial Dream Speed releases, reinforcing a return to bold, oversized branding.
Who Wears the MDS007?
While the boot is built around Cristiano Ronaldo, it will also be worn by a select group of elite players. In men’s football, the list includes Kylian Mbappé, Ansu Fati, Vinicius Jr, Bruno Fernandes, Wu Lei, and Brenden Aaronson. In women’s football, Sam Kerr, Ada Hegerberg, Barbara Bonansea, and Jessica Silva are among the chosen athletes.
