Nike has launched a limited-edition set of heritage football boots that revive five of the most memorable Mercurial colorways from past World Cup eras. Each design—spanning 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014—has been applied to the current Mercurial Superfly and Vapor platforms, blending retro aesthetics with contemporary performance. The collection is available exclusively through NikeiD and is expected to sell out quickly.

Collection Overview

Every Heritage version draws directly from a pivotal moment in Mercurial history, from Ronaldo’s debut in the original blue-and-yellow to Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature Cactus and Hyper Punch schemes. Both the Superfly (high-cut collar) and Vapor (low-cut) options are offered for each year, ensuring players can choose their preferred fit while wearing the same iconic look.

The Five Heritage Designs

1998 – Blue and Yellow Wave

The distinctive blue-and-yellow combination, famously worn by Ronaldo in the 1998 World Cup, makes its return. The original wavy graphic is recreated on the latest Mercurial chassis, replicating the visual impact that defined the first generation.

2002 – Vapor I Speed-Inspired Colors

Drawing from the fastest production car of its era, the 2002 Mercurial Vapor introduced a sleek, speed-driven aesthetic. The Heritage version applies that same colorway to the current boot structure, retaining the original’s high-performance identity.

2006 – Cactus (Cristiano Ronaldo)

The bold “Cactus” green palette, first associated with Cristiano Ronaldo during his early Manchester United days, returns on the Mercurial Vapor III-inspired design. This unmistakable finish is now available on the modern Superfly and Vapor.

2010 – Purple and Orange Contrast

A colorway developed specifically to maximise visibility on a green pitch, the vivid purple-and-orange combination was designed to catch the eye. That experiment in peripheral vision is reimagined on the latest Mercurial platform.

2014 – Hyper Punch and Gold (Dynamic Fit Collar)

The 2014 Mercurial Superfly IV introduced the first Dynamic Fit Collar, with a striking Hyper Punch and gold scheme. This distinctive look is now applied to Nike’s newest boot, marking the first time the collar design appears on a Heritage release.

Availability

Nike has positioned this as an exclusive NikeiD offering, meaning pairs will not be sold through standard retail channels. Given the limited nature of the collection, sizes are expected to run out quickly once orders open.
