After a long period wearing stock boots identical to those of other professionals, Nike has launched Ronaldo’s first special model of the 2015-2016 season: the Mercurial Superfly CR7 Savage Beauty.
Inspiration from Madeira
With each new CR7 design, fans wonder if Nike can surprise again. This time the inspiration comes from Ronaldo’s birthplace: the island of Madeira. Using a footballer’s childhood is a familiar theme—adidas did it with the Messi Rosar10—but what does this boot have to do with Madeira?
Madeira is a volcanic island, inactive for years but still shaped by volcanic origins. Ronaldo’s playing style is explosive and aggressive; when he accelerates into a sprint, it resembles a volcanic eruption. Nike combined these elements into a print that reflects both Ronaldo’s beginnings and his on-pitch explosiveness.
Design and Details
CR7 boots are always about the details, designed exclusively to set the player apart. This time Nike reduced the size of the CR7 logo, making it more subtle for players who may not be fans of the Portuguese star. The logo returns to its original location on the back heel, though smaller than before.
Technology and Performance
The rest of the technical specifications remain the same as previous Mercurial Superfly models. The boot features a Flyknit upper, providing a compressive effect on the foot and a sock-like sensation thanks to the Dynamic Fit collar.
Because the touch provided by Flyknit alone is not optimal, Nike adds a layer to the upper: the NikeSkin finish. This external skin also incorporates ACC (All Conditions Control) technology, ensuring consistent control in wet conditions.
When Will Ronaldo Wear Them?
Ronaldo is expected to debut the Mercurial Superfly CR7 Savage Beauty in El Clásico against FC Barcelona. However, he may first wear them on November 3rd during Real Madrid’s match against Paris Saint-Germain.
