The latest generation of Nike’s Mercurial speed boot introduces a new upper technology called Vaporposite. Found on both the Superfly 8 Elite and the Vapor 14 Elite, this material is designed to enhance ball control at high speeds. Here is a breakdown of what Vaporposite is and how it performs on the pitch.
What is Vaporposite?
Vaporposite evolves from the 2019 Mercurial 360 upper. It combines a grippy grid mesh with a premium “Avail Q” lining, which adds a tactile feel across the surface of the boot. The result is a structured upper that supports both speed and touch. Visually, the semi-transparent design reveals shades of yellow and blue underneath the surface, giving the boot a dynamic look—as seen in colorways like the Risk Red edition.
Performance and Fit
Upper Feel
The Vaporposite material feels rigid and almost plastic-like to the touch. However, once on foot, it becomes noticeably more pliable and offers a natural feel on the ball. The structure features a criss-cross thread design, reminiscent of a 3D pen pattern, that provides support without sacrificing flexibility.
Fit and Sizing
As expected from a Mercurial release, the Vapor 14 Elite has a narrow fit compared to other Nike boots. That said, the forefoot is slightly more accommodating than previous Mercurial models, making the boot accessible to a wider range of players.
A more detailed review of the Vapor 14 Elite will be published once testing is complete.
