What’s the Difference Between PhantomVSN and PhantomVNM?

Nike completed its Phantom lineup by merging the Magista and Hypervenom silos into a single name. The PhantomVSN (Vision) and PhantomVNM (Venum) serve distinct roles on the pitch, which can cause confusion. This guide breaks down exactly what separates the two boots across fit, touch, traction, and availability.

PhantomVSN

Nike describes the PhantomVSN as designed for a “battler who has mastered the art of navigating tight spaces while possessing the vision for attack lanes others may not see.”

PhantomVNM

The PhantomVNM was developed using a robotic leg to test strikes from varied angles with urethane‑injected blades across the instep. Lab data determined the specifications of the Precision Pwr strike zone built for finishers.

Fit

PhantomVSN

The VSN uses a Ghost Lacing system with Quadfit mesh. Quadfit contains the foot without constricting it and retains its shape over time without overstretch. The impact is felt immediately on the inside, though not visible from the outside.

PhantomVNM

A Flyknit upper with dynamic Flywire provides the fit. A regular cut collar is paired with covered lacing and an increased strike zone area. This gives the PhantomVNM a strike zone 30 percent larger than the Hypervenom3.

Touch

PhantomVSN

The VSN upper is Flyknit with micro texture. A triangle‑shaped raised pattern sits across the instep. Nike Sport Research Lab testing confirmed that collecting the ball lower on the triangle increases control for initiating an attack. ACC (All Conditions Control) ensures performance in all elements.

PhantomVNM

The VNM upper is also Flyknit but features strike zone blades. Thirteen ridges in the Precision Pwr strike zone are set at specific angles and ascending heights. This design helps keep the ball down if mishit and provides bite on the ball.

Traction

PhantomVSN

The HyperPrecision outsole is an entirely new FEA‑informed traction pattern built for quick multi‑directional cuts. The studs sit on a lightweight, responsive plate with enhanced zonal support for the foot.

PhantomVNM

The HyperReactive 2.0 outsole takes inspiration from Nike Free. It is flexible in the forefoot for toeing off the ground with torque for sharp cuts. This version of the plate exposes its faceted structure, different from traditional plates.
