The legacy of the PUMA KING continues with a landmark update. The iconic silo, worn by football legends for decades, returns to the pitch in 2023 powered by K-BETTER — a new non-animal-based upper material that delivers exceptional touch, comfort, and durability. For the first time, the KING is made entirely without kangaroo leather and includes at least 20% recycled content.
K-BETTER: A Leather-Free Innovation
K-BETTER is a completely new upper material developed by PUMA to replace the previous KING K-Leather. In testing, K-BETTER has proven to outperform its predecessor in touch, comfort, and durability. The material offers a super-soft feel with optimal stretch resistance, providing ultimate control benefits. As a result, PUMA will stop producing football boots with kangaroo leather altogether this year.
Design and Technology
Beyond the upper, the new KING features a redesigned lightweight outsole with an external heel counter, a KING stability spine, and conical studs for enhanced control over movement and the ball. The boot also includes a lightweight removable sockliner with NanoGrip technology, which locks the foot in place to minimise power loss during direction changes.

The KING has been worn by legendary players including Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, Eusébio, Lothar Matthäus, and Pelé. The 2023 Supercharge edition will debut on pitch with Granit Xhaka, Ingrid Engen, Nabil Fekir, Lena Lattwein, and more.
