PUMA has unveiled the ULTRA Ultimate Breakthrough edition, the latest evolution in its speed-focused football boot line. This new model combines a redesigned lightweight upper, enhanced traction technology, and a women-specific fit across multiple silos, marking a significant step forward in performance and inclusivity.
Redesigned ULTRAWEAVE Upper with PWRTAPE Support
The ULTRA Breakthrough edition features a completely revamped ULTRAWEAVE upper that is lighter than previous versions. PUMA has integrated PWRTAPE technology, which is inspired by the anatomy of the human foot. This provides targeted lightweight support in key areas, delivering added stability and a locked-in fit for quick cuts and explosive movements. The semi-transparent upper allows the PWRTAPE structure to be visible, while a sleeker formstrip completes the updated aesthetic.
Dual-Density SPEEDPLATE for Explosive Acceleration
Traction and energy transfer are enhanced through a dual-density SPEEDPLATE. The dynamic plate and reactive toe box work together to provide superior grip and propulsion, making the transition from standing still to fast-paced action smoother. This design aims to optimise energy return during rapid acceleration and directional changes.
Commitment to Inclusivity: Women-Specific Fit Across Silo Range
Two years after introducing the first women-specific fit football boots, PUMA has expanded this offering to all three of its silos: ULTRA, FUTURE, and KING. The ULTRA Breakthrough edition is available in both a unisex fit and a women-specific fit, ensuring that athletes of all genders can benefit from the performance enhancements.
Breakthrough Pack: ULTRA, FUTURE, and KING in Fresh Updates
The ULTRA Breakthrough edition is part of PUMA’s wider Breakthrough Pack, which also includes the FUTURE and two new PUMA KING models with updated colourways. The PUMA KING women-specific fit colourway is set to be worn by PUMA’s female players at the upcoming World Championships. The PUMA KING black colourway is offered in a unisex fit only.

According to Stephanie Viera, Product Line Manager Teamsport Footwear at PUMA, the new ULTRA “continues to push the boundaries of speed, comfort, and support.” The combination of PWRTAPE technology and the ULTRAWEAVE upper ensures the boot remains light, durable, and supportive. The ULTRA Breakthrough edition is expected to be worn by elite players including Kingsley Coman, Antony, Memphis Depay, Christian Pulisic, and leading women’s players at the 2023 World Championships in Australia, such as Fridolina Rolfö, Alex Popp, and Tamires.
