SenseBall Training Ball Review

The SenseBall training football is a unique system designed to enhance foot skills, reaction speed, and rhythm. Unlike traditional training aids that strap around the waist or foot, this tool features a handle that lets the user control the ball’s tempo and movement. After testing it with both adults and children, the system has proven engaging enough to remain in daily use long after the initial trial.

What Is SenseBall?

SenseBall is a football (soccer ball) attached to a string, developed by CogiTraining. This training method is used by professional clubs and federations worldwide, including the Belgian FA, AC Milan, RSC Anderlecht, KRC Genk, Royal Antwerp FC, FC Metz, and FC Nantes.

Recommended by professional players, SenseBall is aimed primarily at young athletes between 6 and 20 years of age. It helps develop football skills and encourages two-footed play. The system also benefits athletes in other sports requiring precise, high-speed leg movements, such as basketball, tennis, skiing, and handball.

The principle behind SenseBall is bilateral activity. Through its design, online exercise videos, and didactical program, a player using SenseBall can make an average of 500,000 touches on the ball in a single season.

How Does It Work?

The system is straightforward. The package includes a ball with a string attached, plus a handle. By pulling the string through the handle and wrapping it, the user can shorten the length; releasing it makes the string longer. The ideal length depends on the player’s height and the drill being performed. Adjustments take only a few seconds.

To use it, hold the handle and kick the ball. It takes a few attempts to get comfortable with the ball’s flight and the pull of the string. The demo videos may make it look effortless, but the training aspect lies in the work required to control the ball’s movement and pattern.

How Often Should You Use It?

For best results, daily practice of 20 minutes is recommended. This allows a young athlete to touch the ball approximately 500,000 times per year. In comparison, a professional training traditionally might touch the ball only about 50,000 times. Most importantly, the method promotes perfectly bilateral play—50% right foot, 50% left foot—forming a complete two-footed player.

How Long Will You Use It?

Many training products end up unused after a short time, but the SenseBall has remained in active use for weeks. A major advantage is that the string allows indoor use where space is available. By leaving it around the house, children naturally pick it up and use it for short bursts—sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes 10 minutes. This flexibility keeps players engaged and encourages extra touches throughout the day.

In a team setting, the SenseBall can also be used in group drills, providing an additional training dimension.

Kids Feedback

Both a 6‑year‑old and an 8‑year‑old enjoyed using the SenseBall, primarily because it is easy to pick up and use immediately. The ball automatically returns, reducing the need to chase after it. Although it took time for them to find a rhythm, the system effectively encouraged them to use both feet. It also improved their timing as they learned to visually track the ball’s return. As long as the children continue using it, the product is considered a valuable training tool.
