St. Louis CITY SC Honors 1950 "Miracle on Grass" with Heritage Collection

To mark the 75th anniversary of one of soccer’s greatest upsets, St. Louis CITY SC has unveiled a tribute collection created in collaboration with SoccerBible. The capsule pays homage to the United States’ historic 1-0 victory over England in the 1950 FIFA World Cup, a match forever known as the “Miracle on Grass.” The gear blends vintage soccer heritage with modern streetwear, celebrating the five St. Louis-born players who helped shape that defining moment.
The Collection: Vintage Style Meets Modern Streetwear
The merch capsule centers on a button-down shirt and an oversized sleeveless tee, each featuring references to “The Hill” — the St. Louis neighborhood that produced four of the five 1950 U.S. squad members. Subtle typography marks June 29, 1950, the date of the upset in Brazil. The lineup also includes shorts, a cap, a towel, and a limited-edition necklace. The color palette uses red, white, and navy tones that connect national identity with the club’s own DNA.

“This collection isn’t just about looking good—it’s about telling the story of where U.S. soccer really began,” said CITY SC Chief Experience Officer Matt Sebek. “St. Louis is more than just a soccer city… it’s where legends are born. This drop honors that history and looks ahead to the next 75 years.”

The aesthetic is clean, collegiate, and punchy, pulling from retro football silhouettes with a cut intended for the modern supporter’s wardrobe. The energy is unmistakably American, filtered through CITY SC’s streetwear edge — equally at home in Lou Fusz Plaza or on the terraces of the Maracanã.

Celebrating the 75th Anniversary with Matchday Activations
The collection lands as the centerpiece of wider anniversary events on June 25, when CITY SC hosts its midweek match at Energizer Park.

Pre-Match Block Party and Game Day Tributes
A “From The Hill to Brazil” CITY Block Party will take over Lou Fusz Plaza before the game, featuring Brazilian BBQ from Expat BBQ, samba music, and storytelling that connects past and present. Inside the stadium, the match will feature 75th anniversary-themed nets and flags, a National Anthem performance by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and a CITY SC sash-design pennant giveaway.

A mural is also being installed on the side of Anthonino’s Taverna on The Hill, painted by local artist Scott Pondrom. This permanent street-level artwork serves as another tribute to the moment five St. Louis men took the World Cup pitch and changed American soccer.

A Nod to The Hill and the Five Hometown Heroes
The five players who represented the United States in that 1950 match — Frank “Pee Wee” Wallace, Gino Pariani, Charles Colombo, Frank Borghi, and Harry Keough — may not be household names today, but their influence on the game remains. St. Louis CITY SC’s tribute ensures their legacy endures through stitches, style, and a spotlight 75 years in the making.
