Umbro has revived one of its most beloved football boots with the Speciali 98, a reissue crafted to the same standards and specifications as the original 1998 release. The boot pays homage to the pair famously worn by Michael Owen when he scored that memorable wonder goal against Argentina as an 18-year-old.
Design and Materials
The Speciali 98 features a thin, buttery soft kangaroo leather upper that provides a perfectly natural fit and quality touch on the ball. A new tanning process makes the leather thinner and stronger, increasing durability while keeping the overall weight low. The classic fold-over tongue gives players an old-school, traditional look.
Soleplate and Performance
Underfoot, the boot adopts a more modern approach. Umbro uses the same TPU outsole introduced on recent releases, equipped with:
- Wishbone technology in the midfoot for stability
- Memory Flex grooves under the ball of the foot, offering a natural, free feeling when cutting and changing direction
- Conical studs designed for use on both firm ground (FG) and artificial turf surfaces
Speciali 98 Collection
