The third iteration in the Nike Dream Speed series has arrived, and it may be one of the most creative designs yet in the range. Nike has taken the Mercurial line—Superfly and Vapor—and covered them with a wild upper design built from iconic patterns. Initially, leaked images felt overly busy, but seeing the boot in hand reveals a visually stunning finish with a shimmer effect that transitions from purple to gold and then blue.
Design and Patterns
The upper is primarily Black/White, but its complexity comes from several distinct patterns, each with its own meaning:
- Wave patterns that characterize quickness.
- Dotted pattern around the heel representing formations used by winning teams across the years.
- Gridded, waved pattern across the forefoot symbolizing the rippling effect made by a goal when scored.
- Safari print through the instep, paying homage to 10 years since their on-pitch debut.
The combination of these elements makes the boot difficult to capture fully in images—there is a lot going on.
Upper and Fit
A 360-degree Flyknit construction wraps the foot for a second-skin fit, using a new high-tenacity yarn and a one-piece lining to create a close, secure feel on the field. An ultra-thin NikeSkin overlay brings the player closer to the ball for high-speed maneuvers. As with the entire Mercurial series, the fit is intentionally tight. The boot wraps the foot like a cocoon, locking it down with an upper that is slightly more rigid than expected from a yarn-based material.
Performance Features
Underfoot, Nike has added a new Aerotrak zone along with a slightly stiffer chassis to help supercharge traction. This combination supports explosive acceleration and stability during play. The snug fit requires players to be prepared for a secure, locked-in feel throughout the boot.
